Our client is a multinational market leader in the field of consumer
products. They manufacture and market products in every household in the
United Kingdom.
They currently have a vacancy for a Bayesian Statistician to work within
their multi-discipline team assessing the safety of their products. The role
is based at their Safety and Environmental Assurance Centre (SEAC) site in
the UK. This is a central resource providing expertise and advice on safety
and environment matters.
The purpose of the Risk Analysis group within SEAC is to apply quantitative
and probabilistic techniques to understand and control complex, novel or
controversial SHE risks.
Within this group, the Probability Assessment department, in which this role
will be based, aims to provide novel insights in the control or prevention
of risks through the development and application of modelling and decision
making techniques.
Main Job Purpose:
The jobholder will work with experts from many different science disciplines
to build and apply models / analyses that can be used to quantify, classify
and predict risk.
Key Accountabilities:
* Consultancy, advice and training on experimental design, analysis and
modelling.
* Robust analysis. Clear, consistent and transparent models
* Development of new techniques and approaches
* Recommendations on data requirements for the development of new models
* Standard solutions that can be incorporated into design tools or decision
support systems
* Continuing professional development and professional networking, ensuring
that statistics capability remains strong
Education & Experience Required:
The role requires an MSc / PhD in Mathematics / Statistics. Experience of
applying Bayesian techniques is essential and familiarity with Bayesian
Belief Networks useful. The role requires excellent communication and
interpersonal skills and experience of statistical consultancy is essential.
A high level of skill in statistical computing is also highly desirable.

a clear, analytical thinker who combines practical creativity with objective
analytical power.
