at

(nearest underground stations: Barbican, Old Street , Moorgate and Liverpool St)
If you were empowered to take important strategic decisions in the battle to beat HIV /AIDS, what would you do? Does this crisis demand more drastic action? How innovative would you be? Would you take risks? How would you use statistical evidence and your understanding of the ethics underlying the crisis to help you to decide what to do?
This event is aimed at students and teachers of AS, A and undergraduate level Biology, Statistics, Mathematics, Medical Sciences, Social Science/Politics and Citizenship inter alia, but will also appeal to professionals in the field who would enjoy supporting our debate by tackling issues from an evidence-based perspective.
If you work in the field of HIV-AIDS in research/medical statistics, policy development/strategy management in central/local government or for a related interest group/NGO, our event should offer some fresh perspectives on the crisis and be of real interest to you. We would really welcome your participation!
Speakers include: Dr Kholoud Porter, MRC Clinical Trials Unit; John Sullivan, Principal Statistician, Pfizer; Betty Amailuk, AIDS in Africa: Scenarios for the Future Project and Dr Jane Hutton, University of Warwick. Our Keynote Talk: HIV, Prisons and Prions will be given by Professor Sheila Bird, Biostatistics Unit, MRC Cambridge.
A key output from the event will be an Action Plan developed by participants, which can be shared with relevant organisations and bodies.
