The new Higher Education Grant is part of the student support package and
will be paid in the same way as existing student support products. It will
be paid in instalments by BACS on the same dates and in the same
proportions as the student loan, and will appear alongside the loan on the
student's financial support notification. As with the loan, the first
instalment will not be paid without evidence of the student's attendance,
so where the first instalment is paid by BACS an electronic attendance
notification is required, as you suggest. Where the first instalment of the
loan is still paid by cheque, this cheque will in future include any first
instalment payments of the grant that are required.

Students do not have to request a loan in order to receive the grant, and
they do not have to send a loan request form to SLC unless they actually
require a loan. It is, however, important - as ever - that they provide us
with their bank details, which they now place on the main application form
instead of the loan request form.

Institutions do not, therefore, need to do anything differently in order to
support the delivery of the Higher Education Grant.

(Apologies for cross posting)

Hello,
Here at Nottingham we are beginning to plan the "practicalities" for the
coming academic year, and have been looking for information as to how the
new £1000 grant is to be paid to students. We are assuming that the grant
will be paid to students in the same way that the dependant's grant etc. is
currently paid (i.e by BACS along with their Student Loan if they have
requested it) which requires us to check the student's registration status
with the University, scan the barcode on the student's payment schedule,
and send a data file to the Student Loans Company at the end of the day.
However, after searching through DfES & Student Loans Company information
so far we can find no evidence to either concur or conflict with our
assumptions.

I am wondering if colleagues have any information on how this grant is
planned to be paid to students that they would be happy to share with us at
Nottingham, and also any information on the institutions role in the
overall administration of the scheme. I would be grateful for any guidance
that you may have.

Many thanks
