Dear All
At Queen Mary, University of London course registration involves both a student and
the student's adviser signing a course registration form. In this way we have an
appropriate audit trail; the student has ownership of the modules for which s/he
registers; the adviser verifies that the selection of modules forms a coherent
programme of study.
The process is somewhat arduous and involves masses of paper, so we are looking at
devising a new system which involves online registration.
However, we have come across a stumbling block. The system we are considering
allows academic departments to input students' course registrations on a local system;
the input is then uploaded to the current Student Record System.
It appears to be difficult, within the confines of our current system, to retain the link to
the student. Therefore a student might pre-register for courses before the start of an
academic year, and then at the start of the year discuss with an adviser the options
available. There appears to be no mechanism by which we can retain student
ownership of this process, thereby keeping the audit trail intact.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who currently offers online course
registration. Please could you let me know how a student verifies his/her course
registration.
Many thanks
Andy
