1)We are in process of moving away from current practice of using separate
EO to tear-off version with the hope that this would improve return rate.
2)we operate central recruitment function only for senior posts(PL and
above),everything else is done through Faculties/departments).However for
monitoring purposes , each Faculty/department is required to complete a
detailed equal opportunities summary sheet for each appointment( which they
deal with)and return to us in central HR with other relavent documentation
so that we can issue the contracts. This info is used to produce recruitment
monitoring reports twice a year.
Trust this is of help.

Subject: Staff Recruitment Monitoring
Dear All,
We are currently re-designing our application form for staff. Currently, the
section for equal opps monitoring is not separable from the rest of the
form, but I would like to make it a tear-off section in the new form. This
proposal has raised some difficulties with our operational HR staff, because
of the way our recruitment process operates. For academic and senior
support staff positions, the applications are returned to HR, so we could
detach the EO monitoring section, but for all other positions, inc research,
the applications go direct to the School/section concerned - with no
guarantee that they will detach the monitoring section before it reaches the
recruiting manager, nor any obviously easy way of matching the EO data with
the outcome of the selection process.
So, a couple of questions for you:
1 - Do you have a tear-off, or separate, EO monitoring section with your
application form?
2 - Do you operate a central recruitment function, through which all
applications are routed?
3 - If the answer to 1 is 'yes', and 'no' to 2, how do you solve the
problem? Do you have a IT recruitment system that allows devolved input by
recruiting departments?
I shall be happy to post a summary of responses, and to engage in any
dialogue with interested parties!
