Upcoming TASI digital imaging workshops for April 2004

IMAGE OPTIMISATION - Correcting and Preparing Images
Wednesday 14th April 2004, Glasgow School of Art
Introduces skills required for correcting digital images and preparing them
for future use. This workshop will show suitable techniques and warn
against those that can degrade image quality. We will introduce batch
processing techniques to save time and critically evaluate the amount of
processing appropriate for digitisation projects.


COLOUR MANAGEMENT for Digitisation Projects
Thursday 15th April 2004 Glasgow School of Art
An advanced workshop for those involved in high quality digitisation
projects. Reliable, consistent colour is one of the most difficult things
to achieve in a digital imaging project. Whilst 'best practice' recommends
device calibration and ICC colour profiling, it can be a challenge to find
out how to implement this in the real world of a digitisation project.
TASI's colour management workshop aims to plug this gap, walking through
the basic steps from calibrating input devices to accurately simulating
printed output. This workshop uses Adobe Photoshop 6.0 and requires
experience of digital capture and image editing.


IMAGE CAPTURE - Advanced
Thursday 22nd April 2004,  Bristol
The final in our three image capture workshops where we address some of the
more advanced scanning techniques, and critically evaluate different
capture methods comparing the image quality obtained via the capture
methodologies.


IMAGE MANAGEMENT - Storing and Finding Your Digital Images
Friday 23rd April 2004,  Bristol
An introduction to Image Management Systems (IMS), with a range of
practical exercises to illustrate the underlying concepts. We begin with an
overview of databases and integrating a metadata framework with your IMS,
address issues surrounding digital preservation and data migration, and
round off the day reviewing the features to look for when choosing a IMS
for your project. This workshop is ideal if you need to organise your
digital images, but aren't sure where to begin.
