Hi All,
Thanks for your help and advice regarding the School Pickup problem. I am
sure we will come to an amicable solution soon.
I have another request for help.
I have called together an impressive (for this authority) group of officers
from Leisure, Planning, Engineers, Highways etc. who have agreed to look at
what we can do to co-ordinate our efforts to improving pedestrian areas
especially for the disabled. I am not sure if highways footpaths and
pedestrian town centres are covered by the DDA, or, if the forthcoming
Disability Bill will have a directly impact on our duty towards them. I am
not doing this because of a legal duty the authority may, or may not, be
subject to in the future but rather from a desire to create some "joined up
thinking". However, it would not hurt my cause if the current or perhaps
future DDA could be used to apply some extra persuasion.
Has anyone been a part of a similar initiative and can they give me any
advice on the best way to take this forward, remembering that things don't
usually get done unless it has to or there is some kind of kudos to be
gained.
