This request received by email from a highways dept:"Is there any
preference in colour for posts re their visibility to partially sighted
people? We have some black painted posts and were wondering if these are
more or less visible than grey posts. We did have an incident a few years
ago when someone walked into a black post at night and claimed against us.
There is no specific guidance on colour in Inclusive Mobility"
I replied to the above with a suggestion to paint silver/white/gold
(contrasting) band around post, also suggested lighting and pointed out
that the posts should contrast with the surroundings (paving etc)but
received a reply stating that the posts are in a conservation area and the
conservation officers want to minimise the visual impact of the posts as
much as possible but ensure that they are still detectable.
Does anyone know of specific conservation areas where the issue has been
resolved?
Thanks
Elaine Pinkney
