Devilish Details:
Next steps towards a national credit framework
NIACE and the Federation of Awarding Bodies (FAB) are collaborating in the organisation of this conference, which will be of interest to all those following the development of a national credit framework for adults.
The Government committed itself to the development of such a framework in the July 2003 White Paper '21st Century Skills: Realising our Potential' and the DfES has commissioned both the Learning and Skills Council and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority to take it forward.
The principles of credit are at the heart of a potentially profound process of reform to our qualifications system, affecting learners of all ages. NIACE, therefore, wishes to play its part in supporting this development through the organisation of this national conference. The conference is timed to take place following agreement of the principles for a national credit framework (scheduled for March 2004, after joint consultation by the LSC, the QCA and a range of partners) and at the beginning of a programme of implementation, which will aim to accredit the first qualification within the National Qualifications Framework in 2005.
The conference will address some of the key challenges to be faced in translating these principles into practice, and will feature keynote speakers and workshops from both policy makers and practitioners involved in this important development. NIACE hopes that the conference will be one source of information and discussion, which can help to shape this process of transition to reflect the interests of adult learners.
