Hi Bill,
It's all down to personal taste in the end, I suppose. All the drinks mentioned are an aquired taste, and the more I aquire them, the less I taste them (....distant sound of wailing wind......tumbleweed.....)
As for Temple Bar, I've an aversion to the place ever since I was living in eire a few years ago and I went on a day/evening/night/next morning out with some friends. We wandered into the centre of Dublin stopping along the way. After much merriment some lovely local young lads decided they'd carry my wallet for me, I did protest, and they duly answered with a pint glass to the side of the head. A trip to A&E and 5 infiltrations of LA to the side of the head later, they managed to remove the spike of glass from my ear and stitch me up. Thankfully the 14 pints of creamy black GA I'd drank earlier helped me off to sleep. Obviously a one off and could happen anywhere, but I still prefer the rest of the country anyway. Excellent point about chucking up one's ring though.

Kevin,
Most of the places you mention seem to be in the south of England, so you'll do well to get any drink other than shandy (expect a backlash). You could ask Chris to bring a pint of boddies down from Manchester with him to BSS, but I'm afraid it's not a great example of good northern beer. If you can get it (it'll have to be a good CAMRA pub) try any of Moorhouse's Pendle brews. I've seen them on my travels around England as guest ales.

Cheers

Lee
