Dear Kevin,
Lucky you off to Ireland for a week! Don't forget your raincoat.
Regarding "the distance of the "beer rings" on the inside of the pint
glass after the drink had been consumed by the customer (approximately 2
cm between rings indicating average drinking prowess)."
I always thought that the rings on the inside of the glass were indicative
of a good pint of Guinness. I have consulted a few irish experts who tell
me the best indication of drinking prowess is to observe which customers
are carried out the door and which customers walk out the door.
You could always order a glass (1/2 pint)of Guinness, however this may be
considered feminine as typically women drink glasses of Guinness.
In order to enjoy a good pint of Guinness look for a busy pub, then scan
the customers to see how many are drinking pints of Guinness.
If you go to Donegal call into "The Cottage" pub on mainstreet Letterkenny
they serve an excellent pint of Guinness. If you visit Cork then
Christie's Hotel @ Blarney Woollen Mills is good too. Oddly enough the
best Guinness I ever had was in Liverpool.
Have you tried the extra cold Guinness?
Go n'eiri an bothar leat!
Jean McCormack
