Hi, I would be most grateful if you could give me the name of the
company that supplies the orthoscanner or a contact number of the
company so I can get some more literature on this as it sounds very
intresting. Many thanks

Dear Dave,
Good to hear from you again and thank you for sending me your note. The
Orthoscanner is quite unique in that it is dynamic yet can measure to
computer accuracy open kinetic chain position and movement also either
active movement or active movement against passive resistance. The
important thing is that it also measures with time on all planes
simultaneously. If you now compare this to traditional technology where
we measure available passive movement around a subtalar joint neutral
position (which may or may not exist) with a 2 dimensional instrument
similar to a protractor with the patient at rest and on a couch, then we
have to ask what reliable and reproducible information we can gather
from this. Keeping in mind that if a given patient was measured for
ankle dorsi-flexion by 10 practitioners, we would probably have 10
different results. Additionally, if slipper casts were also taken again
10 identical casts are unlikely.
The whole purpose of the Orthoscanner is to apply accuracy in
measurement at any moment in time on all planes in a reproducible way.
We cannot compare it with any other system for it is the only machine of
its type. Reproducibility tests within the laboratory have proven to be
of accuracies not achievable by any other means and certainly not by
traditional technology.
Within the laboratory we employ the latest software available and all
information gathered goes to a database. It is this database that
establishes our criteria for normalcy. As the database grows we will be
able to refine our findings. Given all of the above with regard to
traditional technology is it possible to establish meaningful criteria
by that method?
Thank you once again for your response and if you want to talk to me my
telephone number is 01224 621 982.
Kind Regards
Ken
