We do it this way at RX Laboratories also, although we use high density EVA
as the extension material.

May those that love us, love us.
And those who don't love, may God turn their hearts.
And if he doesn't turn their hearts,
May he turn their ankles
So we will know them by their limping!

>Valgus posted sulcus extensions seem very effective at 'facilitating'
lateral column stability and consequently transverse and medial arch
function i.e hicks windlass and fore foot stability.
In my own practice, I have used it effectively to treat laterally unstable
patients (Max evertus test), especially where knee pain is present. It is
also very effective in the 'toe' runner where the use of rear foot posting
is ineffective.
I am intersetd in whether this approach is used in the US or is Andy
Horwood as much of an innovator as I would like to beleive.<

Philip,

We make sulcus length, Korex varus and valgus extensions frequently. We
measure the angle of the forefoot to rearfoot and fabricate the wedge to
match the intrinsic correction in the orthosis. This extends the correction
and allows for articulation of the mpj's.

Respectfully,
Jeff Root
