Sam
We have been having occasional joint clinics between the Diabetes foot care
team, and the Biomechanics team here in Norwich.
We "Triage" a lot of Diabetics with ulceration in one clinic - patients
selected by the Diabetes Team(ie ones that have ulceration but are not
responding well to debridement/pressure relief in the normal way), and then
we decide between us which ones to F-Scan 2 weeks later.Usually 2-3
patients.
We make up a test orthotic, then scan the patient with 7mm flat poron, and
then the orthotic, or orthotics if we want to look at different methods.
We analyse their peak pressures/loading times, and send the patient away in
the device that proves its worth so to speak.
So far it has been interesting for us to "see" our orthotics, and their
effects around a lesion - sometimes with surprising results - ie making the
pressure HIGHER perish the thought!
