Bob
As per your previuos posting, I also am looking for a baseline measure.
(I was hoping thet Velocity of the COP would be the one to go for but this
may not be the case.)
What I think we need is a base line for measuring insoles/footwear in
research and another base line for measuring individual foot patholgies /
patient types e.g. if one type of orthoses is seen to consistently 'out
perform' another in PURELY mechanical function, then this may be seen as a
good starting place from which to assess prescription protocls such medial
skives verse heel raises etc in treating specific client groups.
If however, as is often seen, the type of orthoses is itself not credible,
then the rest of the reserach may also not be credible.
An example of this is a peice of research I read that concluded that
orthotics do not aletr foot function. However the research used flat bed
insoles with poron valgus fillers. The lay person, or the person with a
vested interest, may then take this at face values and make in correct
assumptions.
I still maintain that general rules regarding materials are needed to
allow us to then look at prescription variables.
