Hi Phil,
I have read a few of the constructive comments people have made, but you will have noticed that the advice that you get can be contradictory. Which way will you go? You will have to make the final call.
Consider this then. Regardless of how well conceived your (or any) experiment is, you are likely to find only partial answers to some of your questions while other questions remain unanswered completely. More importantly, you will, on reflection of your results, formulate new questions that will be more insightful than those that you started with. Then you do another experiment!
So do the first experiment and come and tell us what you did, or didn't, find. This will, in the long run, be most useful.
