What has always surprises me is that many Podiatrists strive for high tec
assessment methods for which ever larger sums of money can be paid. But when
you ask them about the type of devices they use and the production method
employed they either tell you they use a system of preformed averaged out
library shapes or they say that they don't know what the production protocol
of the lab they are using is. It seems to me reasonable that we should be
just as motivated regarding the accuracy of the final device (within our
current knowledge base) as we are in being accurate in the assessment. The
process from assessment to management is only as strong as it's weakest link
so their doesn't appear to be much point having a highly accurate assesment
if we then prescribe a device that is no more accurate than one bought from
a chemist shop for 20 quid.
