I for one have found the recent debate very useful, if a little heated. I
have to confess that I have seen little from the society that would
encourage me as regards the future direction of the profession and forums
such as this may be ideal for the society to communitcate on an regular
basis what progress is being made. I understand how difficult it is to
balance eveyones interests but I cannot for the life of me see for example
why we have a surgical faculty but not a biomechanics one ? there are many
questions that the general membership would like to explore in a forum like
this and it would be good PR if nothing else for the society to regularly
engage in such discussions.

We all recognise that driving such a diverse profession forwards is a
mammoth task but there does appear to be a real need for much more openness
and dialogue. I would not suggest that the society is secretive but it is
not strong on communication of its vision and I would suggest that it badly
needs to address this if it is to hold the confidence of the profession. I
would agree however that the society's duty is to its paying members and is
in no way answerable to those who choose not to subscribe.

It is at least good to see such a debate beginning and hopefully this will
go some way to galvanising the profession

Kindest regards
