Dear Ken,
Thanks for your clarification. It sounds a serius attempt to use a more
scientific procedure for foot orthoses manufacturing.
Please, keep us/me informed about your findings. About the weather, we have
a cloudy and cold week in Barcelona. Few people know, but it rains more here
than in London; although we have more sunny days than you!
Regards,
Javier

Dear Javier,
The purpose of the Orthoscanner was to achieve accurate dynamic information
in a topographical way, that was meaningful and reproducible. All planes had
to be visible and measurable to computer accuracy within any micro- second.
This would then allow us to compute foot function during loading and
compensation including hip, knee and centre of gravity position and
movement. From this we would be able to reach an accurate prescription that
was dynamic rather than the measurement of available passive movement on a
couch with the patient at rest.
Since all planes would be available, 3D capture would then be possible
without the need for casting, which as we all know is not a science but more
of an art. Additionally, CAD/CAM milling would eliminate 27 stages of
manmade opportunities for error.
As for the criteria for normalcy I really have no thoughts or opinions. Much
research is still required before entering into that debate.
Thank you Javier for responding to my last note and I hope that Spain is
warmer than Scotland at present.
Kind regards,
ken
