'As a single member group you may not be aware of these matters.'
Obviously not. Is everyone else?
I am truly sorry that you seem so reticent in discussing professional
strategy. Surely an open debate on direction would be desirable and
beneficial, especially in the prevailing political climate that you refer
to. I’m sure many of your own membership would have delighted in
participation too.
As far as the plan is concerned, I can only conclude that I have been sent
a different one than that yourself. I fail to see, in mine, any cohesive
strategy which links the various objectives in a way that adequately
address the issues currently facing the profession. That is why I am
asking you to explain your thinking. Do you consider that too much to ask?
We know where the profession is at the moment. We know the difficulties
with public delivery, both for clinicians and patients alike. We also know
the problems stemming from inadequate legislation. What I would like you
to do is to outline your [the Society’s] vision of how you might like the
profession to look in three years time and how you intend to get there,
taking into consideration all the current issues in the political and
professional arenas. That way we can have an intelligent debate on whether
the policy objectives are realistic and robust. You never know; you might
even get some support.
Out of curiosity, how many policy objectives from the first strategic plan
were achieved and what impact have they had on influencing practice
delivery over the last three years?
Best wishes
MR
