Dear Ralph
On Friday 10 September, you wrote to Mr Neil Thomson,stating...
“I did take my policy on admission to the East Anglia Branch in Cambridge
amongst my discussion of wider more democratic representation and the
delegate assembly.”
You go on to say…
“Many people were unhappy about such admission but a percentage became
convinced when I had made the case about the best representation of
existing members interests. We did not take a vote and I left them to
ponder further.”
And then…
“I am happy to be judged by the membership and no one in my position before
has placed them self in just such a position by arranging not just to face
the AGM but in addition a special delegate 2 day meeting which will have
more than enough time to debate and decide this issue.”
***********
Ralph, I am terribly sorry, as I appear to have misjudged your position.
Are you now saying that changes to membership have not yet been implemented
and that there will be a major consultation exercise, in the form of a two-
day conference, before any decisions are taken? If that is the case then I
have been foolish in the extreme. But I still cannot reconcile this with
the letter you wrote to ASSR’s and in the Journal, where you state that
this policy is now in force. You have either taken the decision already; or
you haven’t.
Which is it?
Yours sincerely
Mark Russell
