Hi Maire,

Here's another point worthy of consideration.

If your chap is in the middle of nowhere and his orthosis (es) fracture then what good will all the theory do him - or you? If you want to be safe, and you're only getting one shot at it, then look for the option with minimal risk. By the way, I was serious about contacting the AMWC in Plymouth. They have to live and function efficiently at -40 for extended periods of time. At the end of the day there is no substitute for experience...
