Dear Ralph
One final point. Honest!
One of the advantages of a professional debating forum is that it offers
the opportunity for comprehensive and exhausting debate on the issues of
the day. This gives the benefit for hearing views that may otherwise not
be heard when the process is conducted with a limited audience; such as
the Council of the Society. I’m sure these thoughts were part of your
reasoning for promoting a house of delegates and if the past few days are
anything to go by, it could only lead to greater accountability and
participation. No bad thing at all.
In that vein, I was wondering, during their deliberations on this matter,
whether Council had considered the consequences of relaxing the membership
conditions? One possible impact could be a measurable increase in
indemnity insurance cover. The fact that you are offering full membership
to all and sundry will certainly influence your underwriters when they are
considering liability exposure. I bet you’re not in line for a discount!
Thanks for keeping the door open over the weekend. It’s been most
instructive.
Kind regards
Mark Russell
