I've found these figures for market share of browsers (afraid some are US
based), I've roughly listed them and given the source. It's not 98% but it
is substantial. I also think there's a difference between 'making the site
look the same for as many users as possible' and 'ensuring that as many
users as possible can navigate the site'. I don't think the pictures charts
will be distributed via the newsgroup so feel free to e-mail me on:

and I'd be happy to send them to you. It seems as though the figure is
somewhere between 75% and 95% depending on which figures you go for.
