Tate's Glossary www.tate.org.uk/collections/glossary/ is an exciting new
addition to the Collection section of Tate Online. Containing almost 300
definitions, the Glossary is designed to help explain art terminology,
including definitions of artist groups and art movements, techniques and
media that are mentioned in texts about Tate's Collection.
The Glossary is available both as a browsable, illustrated resource and
for compatible browsers as popup definitions linked from Collection
based texts. An exciting feature is the inclusion of British Sign
Language translations of nineteen key terms, available as both broadband
and narrowband video clips. Tate's Collection homepage has been revamped
to mark the introduction of the Glossary and improve access.
Together with the addition of a further 6,300 catalogue texts and artist
biographies, the Glossary provides another level of enrichment to the
collection pages of Tate Online. Both the text scanning and Glossary
developments have been enabled by funding from the Big Lottery Fund
http://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/ and support from BT, exclusive sponsor
of Tate Online www.tate.org.uk .
