Reference Management day
Adept Scientific, Letchworth, Hertfordshire
Wednesday, 23rd June 2004, 09.30 – 16.30
Course Outline
If managing literature references is part of your information work then this course is for you. Whether you are indexing a small reprints collection or managing thousands of research references then this course will provide an opportunity to test drive some of the products which help to deal with the esoteric nature of individual references. During the day you will be given the chance to examine leading software products to determine how each deal with
* Collecting and locating references (manually, direct importing, connecting out, etc)
* Maintaining the database integrity (authority lists, links to desk top files, etc)
* Reproducing reference lists (publisher requirements, subject bibliographies, working with word processing packages, etc)
* Other user issues when introducing reference software (legal issues, training implications, where users search from, visualising references, etc)
By the end of the day delegates will:
* Understand the benefits of reference management software
* Be able to compare key features of the different packages
* Have examined a number of leading packages
* Be aware of issues when introducing this type of software
