Seminar: Understanding Libraries: how they work and what they want
21 April 2004
Room D502, Clement House, London School of Economics & Political Science, Houghton Street, WC2A 2AE (map)
Chair: Ian Bannerman, Blackwell Publishing
Libraries are crucially important customers for publishers, but many publishers don't know nearly enough about how they really work. Publishers could establish much better relationships, and do more and better business with libraries, if they knew who does what in the library, how decisions are made, how librarians make deals, and what they expect from publishers. Large commercial publishers may have sales teams and sometimes even library liaison teams, but the smaller society and other publishers don't have these resources. This seminar will help them to understand libraries as customers, and to understand business issues from the librarians' point of view. The programme will include a tour of the LSE Library.
