Hello folks,
Given the close relevance of geospatial information to archaeological /
historic environment work, subscribers may be interested in the current
consultation GI Discovery Metadata - see below.
There are only a couple of weeks to get your responses in!

"UK GEMINI is a programme of work to define an element set for describing
geo-spatial, discovery level metadata. This will enable organisations to
create, for any given resource, a single set of metadata that will be
compliant with relevant national and international standards, specifically
ISO 19115 and UK e-GMS. It will be created for use by United Kingdom
organisations, but will be openly available to all, and will be suitable for
describing resources covering any geographic area. The ISO 19115 standard
for geo-spatial metadata, which was approved in March 2003, will serve as
the source for these elements."
The UK GEMINI position paper and the draft element set are now available for
download from the GI Gateway website www.gigateway.co.uk.
The first draft of the element set can be downloaded in PDF format:
http://www.gigateway.org.uk/datalocator/metadata/pdf/ISO19115ProposedElement
s.pdf.
The public consultation will run until the 31st January. There will be a
further opportunity for public consultation in March or April 2004 if this
is needed, with the official launch of the standard at GIS 2004.
It is essential that as many organisations as possible contribute to the
process of defining the metadata element set and that IGGI members work to
ensure that the standard meets the specific needs of government, as well as
those of the wider spatial information community.
IGGI members are therefore encouraged to participate in the consultation.
You are asked to respond directly to AGI for the purposes of this exercise.
If you are interested in Metadata you will also be interested in the work of
the IGGI Metadata Implementation Working Group
http://www.iggi.gov.uk/working_groups/work_grp.htm and the IGGI Metadata
workshop that is being organised for Wednesday 10th March 2004
