With apologies for any cross-postings.
The UK Archival Thesaurus project (http://www.ukat.org.uk/) has
been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund to create a subject
thesaurus which will promote greater consistency in subject
indexing in the archive sector. To date, over 10,000 terms have
been submitted to UKAT from individual archives and archive
projects. These terms are being edited and incorporated into a
polyhierarchical thesaurus, which already includes over 6000 terms
inherited from the UNESCO Thesaurus.
We would like to get your feedback on how UKAT has developed,
and on the UKAT website. We've therefore placed an online
questionnaire on the website
(http://www.ukat.org.uk/news/evaluation_questionnaire.php), which
we would strongly encourage both custodians and users of archives
to complete. As well as completing the questionnaire yourself, we
would be grateful if you could draw it to the attention of colleagues
and users who may not be on this list.
The responses will form the basis of a second phase work by
UKAT's software developers in April-May 2004, which will aim to
add enhancements and additional functionality to the website. We
will also use the responses to determine the future direction of
UKAT, including bids for funding to sustain UKAT after the expiry of
the HLF grant.
The questionnaire is completely anonymous, and should not take
more than a few minutes to complete. It will be available on the
website until after Easter 2004. We would also welcome feedback
by other methods, such as email ([log in to unmask]).
With thanks in advance,
Phil Carlisle
