Dear Ed,
Your latest missive has prompted me to bring up the issue of digital image standards as discussed in last years e-mail conference. Apparently, and some members may already know about this, the New Opportunities Fund has set out standards for digital image capture, storage and accessibility, as part of its guidance to museums and archives making bids for digitisation. It seems to me that we do not need to re-invent the wheel here, and could probably transfer the NOF standards to the new MIDAS. That's all for now.
Cheers,
Neil

Hello all,
The latest issue of HER News is now available via the English Heritage
website www.english-heritage.org.uk Search on 'SMR News' (the former name
for HER News - we'll get that updated soon) and follow the first link in the
hit list.
There are many articles in this 15 page bumper issue. Particularly relevant
to this list are items on:-
- progress with the UK archival thesaurus;
- archaeological science data and the development of relevant standards;
- progress with the FISH Interoperability Toolkit;
- training in use of the OASIS system for online entry of archaeological
investigations.
The development of a data standard to describe archaeological science
investigations (especially off-site or post-exc) has long been on the agenda
for the second edition of MIDAS: perhaps its is something we could discuss
further on this list?
Best wishes
Edmund Lee
