MEDA: over 700 million euro in 2004 to support the EU?s
Mediterranean partners (26 November 2004)
In 2004, the European Commission is providing, under the MEDA Programme, 709 million euro for co-operation and external aid operations with its Mediterranean partners. This assistance illustrates the EU?s commitment to support development in the region focused on reforms based on common values. Algeria (55 million euro), Egypt (164.5 million euro), Jordan (36.5 million euro), Lebanon (19.5 million euro), Morocco (156 million euro), Syria (55 million euro), Tunisia (24 million euro), and the West Bank and Gaza Strip (73.5 million euro) and the region as a whole (125.5 million euro), are benefiting from this new package that brings the MEDA assistance to the region to over 6.156 billion euro in bilateral and regional co-operation programmes since the Barcelona Process was launched in 1995.

The Future Impact of ICTs on Environmental Sustainability
This report presents the results of a research project commissioned to investigate the possible effects of ICT on a set of environmental indicators in 2020. The project adopted an innovative methodology combining qualitative scenario-building and quantitative modeling. The study concludes that there are significant opportunities for improving environmental sustainability through ICTs. ICT should accordingly be taken into account by environmental policies in order to ensure that ICT applications make a positive contribution to environmental outcomes, and, at the same time, to suppress rebound effects.

Technology-enhanced learning information day

The next call for proposals for research projects in technology-enhanced learning will be launched mid November 2004. The call will cover strategic ojectives defined in the up-dated version of the IST work programme for 2005-2006. In the field technology-enhanced learning, focus of research will be on exploring interactions between the learning of the individual and that of the organisation, and on contributing to new understandings of the learning processes by exploring links between human learning, cognition and technologies. Potential proposers can attend this information day. It aims at building consensus on trends and challenges in future research on technology-enhanced learning, at developing better understanding of the FP6 instruments, sharing ideas and experiences, and helping to find partners for project consortia. Registration is free of charge.

Information on the allocation, availability and use of

The European Commission?s DG Information Society has appointed a consortium formed by Idate, Aegis and Bird & Bird to carry out a study on Information on the use of radio spectrum.
The aim is to provide the European Commission with comprehensive information and an analysis on this subject, so as to provide input for possible Commission policy action in the future.
