LEARNTEC 2004 is a conference and fair facilitating hands-on presentation
and discussion of the latest insights and findings in the field of
e-learning. It is one of the major European events in the area, bridging
research, practice and market. This year's conference is co-organised by the
European Commission, which has a stand to showcase projects including a
number of projects related to e-learning under the Information Society
Technologies of the European Framework programmes. Marco Marsella and
Hans-Jürgen Westhoff both from Technology Enhanced Learning unit in
Information Society Directorate General of the Information Society will be
speakers at the event.

"EUROPA" is re-born: EU's transformed website aims to capture new audiences
(23/01/04)
EUROPA, the EU's multilingual internet site, is getting a fundamental
face-lift in 2004 starting with a new-look home page launched today. The
European Commission, which manages EUROPA, is making a major effort to
capture new audiences, and especially to attract young people. By the end of
March 2004, the emerging new EUROPA will offer many new services in a much
more user-friendly way. It will feature animated graphs, interactive games,
simpler navigation and an improved search function. The languages of the ten
new EU countries will gradually be added . Most of the remaining planned
changes will be in place by summer 2004.

Delivering Mobile Adult Content Responsibly Conference

The two-day conference will bring together the leaders in the field of
mobile telecoms, child protection and adult content to provide a
comprehensive overview of the sector. On the first day of the Conference Mr.
Richard Swetenham, Head of Sector for Safer Internet Programme at
Information Society Directorate General of the European Commission, will
present the European Commission's perspective on mobile adult content.

HealthGrid 2004
Clermont-Ferrand, France
The aim of this conference is to reinforce and promote awareness of the
possibilities and advantages linked to the deployment of Grid technologies
in health. In this context "Health" does not involve only clinical practice
but covers the whole range of information from the molecular level (genetic
and proteomic information) through cells and tissues, to the individual and
finally the population level (social healthcare). The event is organised in
collaboration with the European Commission's Directorate General Information
Society. Jean-Claude Healy, Head of Unit eHealth, will be speaking at the
welcome session.

This OECD workshop on spam is hosted by the European Commission, Information
Society Directorate-General. It will be opened by Commissioner Liikanen and
aims to explore the growing problem of spam, with a focus on the
