Commission goes to Court over discriminatory treatment
against cable networks in France (15 June 2004)
The Commission lodged proceedings against France before the European Court of Justice. The proceedings concern France?s failure to comply with the "Cable" and "Full Competition" Directives. Contrary to the obligations set forth in these directives, France maintains burdensome arrangements for the provision of telecommunications services by cable. Such arrangements do not apply to telecommunications services provided by any other public network. Previously, on 8 April 2003, the Commission had launched the initial phase of today?s Court action by sending France a ?reasoned opinion? setting forth its concerns, but France has failed to amend its national legislation.
