Netstrike Against WIPO with Act Up - monday 26 April, 2004

from 14H to 15h (european time)

Come and participate
and spread around you as much as you can !!!

--------------------------------------------------------

Abolish intellectual property everywhere where it kills !

On april 26 WIPO will organize a special day to "party" and celebrate
patents.

For us, people with aids, this day is undecent. Becaue patents give
pharmaceutical labs a de facto monopoly on treatments , forbiding access
to cheaper generic medicines for millions of sick people.

Since the arrival of thritherapies in 1996, treatments allowing a longer
life opportuniy, 20 millions of people died because they can access only
to too expensive medecines. 95 % of sick people still don4t have access
to medicines becaue they cannot afford to pay them.

On paril 26, from 2PM to 3 PM (GMT time) - 4 PM to 5 PM (swiss time), act
with Act Up in a new form of action : netstrike. It consists into
blocking temporarily the access of WIPO web sites.

It is truly simple to participate and you can even keep on working while
doing it. All you need is a computer, a standard navigator and an adsl
or cabel connection (RTC works though slower). (see netstrike guide -
english below french)

Netstrike - Guide d'usage
----------------------

    * Internet Explorer
    1. Menu Outils
    2. Item Options Internet
    3. Onglets Connexion
    4. Choisir connexion directe à Internet

    * Netscape Navigator 3.x
    1. Menu Options
    2. Item Préférences Réseau
    3. Item Cache (Proxies)
    4. Sélectionner Aucun (Proxy)

    * Netscape Navigator 4.x
    1. Menu Edition
    2. Item Préférences
    3. Item Avancé->Proxies
    4. Sélectionner Connexion directe à Internet

    * Opéra

    3. Case à cocher automatique
    4. Régler la Taille de l'espace disque à 0MB
    5. Cliquer sur Supprimer les fichiers

    * Netscape Navigator 3.x
    1. Menu Options
    2. Item Préférences Réseau
    3. Item Cache
    4. Régler la Vérification de Document sur toujours (à chaque fois)
    5. Mettre à 0 (zéro) à la fois le cache mémoire et le cache disque
    6. Cliquer sur les boutons de nettoyage (purge) des caches

    * Netscape Navigator 4.x

chaque fois que je visualise une page
    5. Mettre à 0 (zéro) à la fois le cache mémoire et le cache disque
    6. Cliquer sur les boutons de nettoyage (purge) des caches

    * Opéra
    1. Menu Fichier
    2. Item Préférences
    3. Item Historique et Cache
    4. Cocher la case Vérifier les modifications
    5. Mettre toutes les cases sur Toujours

4/ Cliquez sur l'adresse suivante :
http://www.actupparis.org/netstrike/netstrike.html

solution consiste à les utiliser tous, simultanément (ex.
Explorer+Netscape).

Abolish intellectual property wherever it kills !

On April 26th the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
organizes a global day of celebration for patents and intellectual
property. For persons living with HIV & aids like us, this event is a
scandal. Because patents are being used to keep affordable life-saving
medication from India or Brazil away from millions of dying people with
aids in developing countries. Since the advent of life-prolonging HIV
therapy in 1996, 20 million people have died of aids, with access only
to patented, grossly overpriced medicines. 95% of people with aids
still don't have access to the
affordable generic HIV drugs.

On Monday April 26 between 4 and 5 pm European Continental Time (10-11
am Eastern Seaboard Time), take simple action against WIPO by taking
part in a 1-hour "netstrike" (blocking WIPO's website).

It's a very simple action to take part in and you can keep working
while you do it. It only takes a computer, a standard web browser and a
cable or ADSL internet connection.

begin your netstrike from 4 PM to 5 PM. Thank you !

***********************
An alternative solution

Instead of our automatic netstrike, you can use a non automatic way
(but you have to stay in front of your computer :

* Insert http://www.wipo.int in your navigation bar

* Keep clicking Reload continuosly. If you want to be REALLY sure to
reload your page every time keep pushing the key Shift while you are
reloading the page.

The last two operations can be executed on several browser windows at
the same time, maximizing your firepower.
