Like the brevity of your poems Martin
Actually, I've been trying to work to the 'Sven 3-4-4 system.'* Only kidding
but brevity reminds me of Keith Dersley's Ipswich friend Tony Stollery. He
was quite prolific as a young man and his poems were amusing. A few years
later, Keith bumped into Tony at Colchester railway station. That Tony was
barefoot in November should have sent a message but they engaged in a
conversation about poetry (to divert attention from shoelessness). Tony took
a thin and tiny notebook from his pocket, no bigger and no thicker than a
credit card, and as if he had found the secret of self-criticism, pleased as
Punch, said to Keith: "look, all those poems - I've cut and edited them down
to this."
The 3-4-4 system indeed.
Best wishes, Rupert
