A poem by Patrick Galvin<<
What a great poem by Patrick Galvin. One to save and savour: the simplicity
but the intensity. I wonder if Galvin wandered with the theory in its
construction? I doubt it. This is a visceral poem tied to the head. Yes,
'theory' but surely the deconstruction and analysis of a human product,
poetry, has to be directly linked to it?
Whatever, I'm very glad this poem has been posted.

I'd agree with Rupert -- a excellent poem, and a fine way to start the day
(late for me, I know).
I'd agree with Rupert's pointing to the element of theory and Trevor's "the
mind happens there", but maybe couch this somewhat differently (or in
parallel).
What struck me reading it was the blend of formal control and intense
feeling. And thinking around it, that it's a very Irish poem. I suspect
(and I'm sure Trevor could expand on this) that there are some deliberate
allusions, intertextual references, whatever, many of which I miss. What I
did get was the ghost of Crazy Jane somewhere in the background.
