My objection to posts like Richard's is not their ideology, except in a
deeper sense than wearing a flag and shoving it in everyone's face. The
posts are boring and boorish. It is writing that is not interested in
dialogue, ie exchange. Richard knows in advance what he thinks and is only
interested in bullying - with a kind of scattergun approach which is
meaningless (what can RadLib mean?) - those who disagree with him, and any
responses are limited to firstly dealing with that aspect. So it's not
enough just to filter him. Even Lawrence at his most argumentative will
listen, think and maybe decide to adjust his views.
It may be revealing about a certain mindset common in the US - after all,
our opposition is currently being bullied by senior US officials for daring
to disagree with the US on the question of Iraq, in a transparent effort to
influence the election. But I can read that in the newspapers.
