Knowing Steve Lacy's name only via Tom Raworth's 'Clean & Well Lit"
and the occasional mention from others whose opinion I respect, I
jumped at the chance to hear him in a free concert on his return to
Boston last year. It was marvellous. I'd hoped to hear him again, but
even once was a privilege. Sad news, this.

>A great sadness: Steve Lacy passed away earlier today. He was one of
>the greatest soprano sax masters of all times, a superb song writer
>(over 250 songs in the last twenty years) -- working in close
>collaboration with his wife, the singer Irene Aebi --, and a major
>reader & connaisseur of poetry (the source for his lyrics). He was also
>a wonderful friend to those who knew him, and one of the finest &
>gentlest human beings it has been my pleasure to know. He will be
>greatly missed.
