I guess it could be argued that any society with a few thousand members
which allows a situation to occur in which only 27 people turn up to a
significant meeting, and where there's no postal vote, wasn't trying to
be democratic in the first place. Or at least not inclusive. I'm not at
all sure that the proposed solution is the one that's needed, however.
I would have expected a more concerted effort to include members by
other means, but...
