I have been reading Stanley Fish recently. Alaric Sumner was always quoting
him; and by and large now I am reading properly I think I prefer Alaric's
Stanley Fish to Stanley Fish's. Anyway Fish himself speaks of those who
change their beliefs always feeling they have made progress. That they can't
do anything else. They use to believe a, now they believe b, having decided
a is wrong. Therefore, they have progressed. But everyone else just sees
change not progress
