This is a way to remove attention from the point being criticised.
Trevor, it is ‘you’ sensing self-importance in my words. I am simply
criticising stagnant water . It is not my problem if you sense this self-
importance, there where there is none at all, a part from your will
to ‘invent it’.. Your ‘feelings’ about me should not be in the way. And
those who know me in person know that I am a very simple woman, in every
aspect of the way I conduct my life, that is down to earth and practical.
To be frank: renounce this technique. I am not sensible to this kind of
rhetoric. I have been around enough on the planet to know how to ‘return’
to the point in question. Please, do not divert. There is a need for a
fresh start and it is pointless to ask people to come up with new ideas. It
would be simpler to make the first move.
There are other Jiscmail lists where no pointless letters to the list would
be sent or accepted. All letters must be focussed and worth. There are
lists in which people feel for ever mortally embarrassed if they send by
mistake a pointless or private letter. How come that on this list the same
rules are so badly disregarded and all that we speak about is but poetry?
Why all these Selves and preoccupations with the Selves dominate our
letters? Is it because we think that (we) are artists and being artists we
are more entitles to play the fool? Well, Surrealist played fools much
better than we are doing, then, and spoke more provocatively...
