What is a kitsch "subject"? This is a serious question - how can a subject
be kitsch? Is this a version of the classical idea that there are fit and
unfit subjects for poetry?
I ask because "kitsch" and "sentimental" have been ways in which women's
poetry has been systemically marginalised or derided over the centuries, and
they seem to me to be terms which very often have a gendered subtext.
