The tunicate Distaplia corolla, originally described from the Azores by
Moniot and Monniot, is actually a common western Atlantic species,
transported to the Azores by ships.
During dives at Porto Santo, the neighbouring island of Madeira Island (500
km off the coast of Morocco, Westafrica), I have now seen and photographed
Distaplia corolla. The species apparently has made another jump (of about
1000 km) and has now arrived on the other side of the Atlantic.
Colour photos of the species in my two invertebrate books. See the
"medslugs" web page after my address.
