Hi George!
The first thing that popped into my mind was some kind of molgulid. It has
the bulbous look that they often have, and the soft substrate is also
typical of many molgulids. We found them in huge mats on soft substrates in
the arctic, so densely packed that they had the look of colonial tunicates.
Just a guess (and probably a bad one!!).
