Unexpectedly, a post-doctoral position has just become available in the
School of Chemistry, University of Leeds, UK to work on time resolved
photo-electron and photo-ion imaging. The position is funded by the
European Union under the IHP programme as part of the PICNIC research
network.
The overall aim of PICNIC, which is a collaboration between academics in
AMOLF Amsterdam, Bristol, Nijmegen, Freiburg, FORTH Heraklion, and CEA
Saclay, and "industrialists" at LaVision, Photek and Amplitude
Technologies, is to develop a better understanding of non-adiabatic
interactions in chemistry through the application of charged particle
imaging techniques (see "Imaging in Molecular Dynamics: Technology and
Applications", Cambridge University Press, 2003).
The position, which is available immediately, is funded for one year and
is open to suitably qualified candidates holding a PhD. Under the terms
of the IHP programme candidates MUST be under 35 years old at the time
of appointment and be a European Union national, a national of the
associated states or have resided in the EU for at least 5 years (see
http://www.cordis.lu/improving/networks/faq.htm#q5)
Specifically the work at Leeds will involve the application of a
Ti:saphire CPA which pumps two independently tuneable NOPAs to
photo-electron and photo-ion imaging experiments. Previous experience
with femtosecond lasers/ion optics/molecular beams would be very useful
but is not absolutely essential. The work is also likely to involve
close interaction with the groups of David Parker in Nijmegen and Benoit
Soep at CEA, Saclay.

applying.)
