Hi Gill
I think you will find that this has been taken over by your local PCT in
liaison with the local Public Health Director.
All GP practices should have level 2 advisers who have had specific
training in stopping smoking if NRT is advised then the GP prescribes it
with no charge to the patient.
For more hardened cases there are groups run by level 3 advisers in the
community.
This is being audited by the government and the paperwork for each case
is quite extensive.
This is really positive but the workplace seemed to be bypassed in this
strategy, I have trained as a level 2 adviser but still have to refer
staff to their GP for any prescriptions so it all becomes a bit
disjointed and at the end of the day it is probably better for all
concerned if they maintain support from one source.
Hope useful
Sara

Subject: Smoking Cessation
Hello All
Does anybody know of a scheme where employers encourage
smokers to quit by offering to pay for
prescriptions for NRT? We are considering implementing
such a scheme and dont really want to re-invent the wheel
if necesary.
We are not aiming to buy in the NRT though this was the first
consideration. Thanks Gill
