Subject: list etiquette - message from the list co-ordinator
In view of the recent postings regarding killings in Iraq, I must remind
members about the proper way to use this list.
First, messages should relate to the subject of the list (i.e. disasters
related to natural hazards). Those who wish to discuss other subjects should
use lists or discussion groups that are relevant.
Second, the title of any message should state the subject of that message,
to avoid misleading readers (in the case in question, the title of the
original posting suggested that it was a reply to a message about the recent
ISDR online dialogue).
Third, contributors should - whatever the strength of their own feelings -
have due regard for the sensitivities of others. Some forms of expression
(or in this case, images) may cause offence.
Fourth, the list is not a medium for advertising commercial products and
services.
As list coordinator, I can remove members who don't follow the rules. I
haven't needed to in the past - usually a reminder is sufficient - but I
won't hestitate to do so if necessary.
Regards
John
