I know Harworth Colliery isn't in Yorkshire (just over the border), but
doesn't it count as a working UK Coal mine?
This mine is well worth a visit to see the tower mounted friction winder
(4 rope) 4000KW motor winding skips up the 960m deep shaft at an amazing
speed.
