Greetings, listees
Can anyone tell me what the metal or alloy "latynne" in the 16th century
might be.
In the context of the same lease, of what is essentially a lead mine, there
is no royalty as such, but the lessor is to have a moiety (legal halving)
of the smelted lead, also to supply the wood for the smelting and to pay
the lessee £2-6-8 a fodder for the lead as melted. It is not specific as to
whether this payment is for all the lead or only for the lessor's half-
share, so I would presume the former, taking it as read. The lessee pays
£10 for his one-year lease.
Has anyone knowledge of similar arrangements at that time or is it unusual?
Regards,
Andy Cuckson
