I've had the following enquiry from Switzerland regarding John Taylor and
Son, and the role of one of their employees in Switzerland.

With regard to a planned historical mining publication, i would like to
find more background information on Mr. Thomas RICKARD, born at Illogan,
Cornwall, some 1837. This Cornish became a very able mining manager,
employed by the famous London-based consulting & mining engineers 'John
Taylor and Sons', who sent him obviously to various European countries in
order to lead the operations on site.
There are still unconfirmed indications, that the same Thomas Rickard was
sent some 1873 until 1878 to Russia, probably in order to lead another
mining enterprise there.
Thomas Rickard was still living in 1901: i found him on the 1901 UK Census,
where he is described at age 67, retired civil mining engineer, widower,
living together with one of his daughters, Florence Marcia Rickard (born
1870 at Andeer, Switzerland) and a domestic housemaid and cook. (From 1865
until some 1871, Thomas Rickard lived together with his family at Andeer,
Canton of Grisons, Switzerland, in order to lead the technical operations
on one of Messrs. Taylors mining enterprises there).
Thomas Rickard married in 1862 Octavia Rachel FORBES.
Do you have any records or additional informations on this Thomas Rickard?
Perhaps you know also some traces to descendants of him who might have also
a photographical picture from him, which would be interesting as well.
A second RICKARD which occured in 1864 during a visit at the same Swiss
mine was Captain R.W. RICKARD, i do not know, if he is a familiar of the
first mentioned Thomas Rickard.
Any help in this research would be highly appreciated and, of course,
positively mentioned in a future publication.
Kind regards from Switzerland,
